Behavior of Offshore Pile in Calcareous Sand—Case Study

The erosion of limestone and calcarenite ridges that existed parallel to the Mediterranean shoreline forms calcareous sand (CS) formation at surface layer Egypt’s northern coast. CS is often combined with broken shells which are considered geotechnically problematic due their possible crushability relatively high compressibility. In this research, samples collected from a site along coast Egypt studied better understand its behavior under normal shear stresses. Reconstituted specimens different ratios (BS) also investigated study effect BS on soil mixture strength behavior. evaluated using laboratory direct-shear one-dimensional compression tests (oedometer test). not exposed significant even high-stress levels. addition, 3D finite element analysis (FEA) presented in paper degradation offshore pile capacity having percentages BS. stress–strain results oedometer compared numerical model, it gave identical matching for most cases. effects diameter embedment depth parameters then case Three mixing have been used, + 10% BS, 30% 50% resulted decrease ultimate vertical load by 8.8%, 15%, 16%, respectively.
